Chimpanzee trekking and primates in Uganda: Uganda is a home to 20 (twenty) primate species with Kibale forest national park having the highest density in all of Africa. Kibale national park alone has thirteen (13) primate species, the chimpanzees-pan troglodytes having the highest concentration making Kibale “the primate capital” and hence a premier destination in East Africa. Over 60% of forest covers in Uganda have primates, therefore primate lovers will find Uganda as the best country to see primates in great numbers. In fact, about 5000 primates are living in all forest covers of Uganda with Kibale alone having 1500 chimpanzees. Indeed, this being a primate world.

Besides the chimpanzees as one major primate destination, there are other rare primates such as the golden monkeys, L’hoest monkeys, grey checked mangabey, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, red colobus, black and white colobus monkeys and many more that can be found in all Uganda forest covers.

However, there are also at least nocturnal primates such as the pottos, and galago like Bush babies that can be trekked especially at night and such rare opportunities are encountered in Kibale national park.

Budongo forest, Budongo Forest is one of the old natural tropical rain-forest found in Masindi and forms part of the Murchison Falls national park. It used to be the hunting ground for the King of Bunyoro before it was gazetted as a reserve of national importance. It has lots of primates and with a fully habituated chimpanzee family and can be trekked

Kalenzu forest adjacent to Maramagambo in Queen Elizabeth National Park, is one of the forests with habituated Chimpanzees and lots of other primates, Kalinzu displays the best opportunity to see the Chimpanzees in their natural habitat as well as different bird species.

Semuliki forest national park, is home to chimpanzees and these are not easily seen due to the thickness and terrine however, on a lucky day when doing forest nature walks you will be surprised by the encounters with the chimpanzees.

Bugoma forest in Hoima just close to Kabwoya wildlife reserve is home to so many chimpanzees and other primates and they are fully habituated for tracking. An opportunity for tourists visiting Murchison falls and Kabwiya wildlife reserve.

Kyambura gorge in Queen Elizabeth national park with a tropical forest and home to the Chimpanzee fully habituated for the tracking adventure is an added opportunity for the tourists in Queen Elizabeth national park a chance to see the chimps.
